Scenes of “Gradient Spring in 2023” based on White color

■ Description

If “白球を追って” released at the same time, is the classic boys’ side, this work may be the classic girls’ view of the world. However, there is nothing romantic in this description, so if you don’t want to ruin the image, press the back button now.

Taking Bing AI’s suggestion, I’ve visited the Shukugawa River area, a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. At first, I thought it would be enough to just visit Koshien, but that alone is hardly a cherry blossom viewing scenery. I also thought about the original source of Koshien (see “白球を追って” description for details), and was intrigued by the riverside environment.

To mention this side project again, the idea is to photograph the atmosphere of the “present age” by taking pictures of the scenery at cherry blossom viewing events every year. Therefore, I have my doubts if I should categorize them as “Graphic”. These pictures might be categorised as “Photographic”. And I think it is necessary to capture “present age” in photography.

The reason I say this is because the demand for photographs as “Graphics” has been disappearing for the past 10 years.

Ten years ago, when digital photography was flourishing, what happened was the materialization of photographs. Photographs became materials that could be divided and modified, and the most important thing was to compose an image from them. Furthermore, with the development of computer graphics, the need for photography itself disappeared from the professional scene, which demanded perfection in images.

Model shoots have become luxuries, film shoots’ turned out about acting in front of green screens, and even “Instagrammable”, which means manipulation of landscape photos here, has been on the wane, or has it not? I must say this – the “average value” is changing drastically. This trend’s been going on for a long time, but in 2023, image-generating AI has started to generate images that could be mistaken for photographs.

So, it can be said that the role of photography as “Graphic” has finally come to an end. Long live “Graphic” Photography.

That is why it is not surprising that “Photographic” has invaded “Graphic”. In other words, this state of affairs is that of the two-sided Ohtani-san, a pitcher and a hitter.

However, there was no way we could do such a convenient thing as playing 2 games in 1. That’s what I thought of, too. Theoretically, as I mentioned in the previous article, “The Algorithm in Motion,” it should be possible to do more sophisticated work by “limiting the space of possibilities”.

But in spite of this, they say Ohtani-san continues to be active. I have been thinking about the logic behind this peculiar phenomenon, and I wonder if this is the so-called “superposition” state. States that appear to be of different kinds are simultaneously united. This would also allow us to deal with the “limitation of the space of possibilities”. And state like this may be the guideline for us humans in the future…

Such a fanciful hypothesis is also interesting. It is definitely easier said than done, though.

Incidentally, the Shukugawa River flows into Osaka Bay only 6.7 km from Mt.Rokko. In Japan, an island nation with a mountain range in the center, rivers tend to be short and swift, requiring levees on both banks to prevent flooding, and fans tend to spread out at the mouths of rivers.

People living there may start planting cherry trees on both banks of rivers and playing baseball in the vacant lots that have appeared around the mouths of rivers. What a reality, I might add suddenly.
